'Rome' was an obvious single choice and was the first after the release of the album Destroying the World to Save It ('Psychic Vampire' was released prior). The track was written in Rome while on tour in 2004 and was inspired by the history of the city. Chris, Clifford and Dino visited the Coliseum. After a man costumed as a centurion shouted 'Burn the Christians!" Chris went back to the band's apartment that night and wrote the entire song.
The demos on the single are some of the earliest songs that were written with the intention of being included on the album and date from 2002.
