When Chris began to record Destroying the World to Save It in early 2004, a group of songs evolved out of the sessions, which he felt should be released together to fit a different concept. The songs were written around the band's experience with an obsessed fan.

The recordings showed a new, more solid direction in the band's sound and production, and a diverse range styles.

As Chris never considered IKON to be a "goth" band, he was reluctant to use a title with the word "vampire" in it for fear of the usual goth cliches. Ironically, "Psychic Vampire" is one of the band's most successful singles and has become a live staple, often closing the show with the band's trademark finish as the members gradually leave the stage.
